Take the modern approach to clean lines, beautiful color and rich fabrics.

  1. Do your homework. Find out temperature, humidity and rain/clarity predictions.
  2. Conduct a little survey to find out how everyone else plans to dress: formal vs. informal, hats vs. no hats, etc.
  3. Take inventory. Do you have clothes that will fit in with a great fall formal? That gray silk skirt will be gorgeous with a new silk twinset.
  4. Check out a few fashion magazines. Fall colors are rich but simple: moss green, grays, black (always), silver especially, and camel beige.
  5. Think sculpted, sleek and clean. Separates are big, and dresses are beaded, embroidered and beautifully cut.
  6. Choose classic fabrics like lightweight wool or silk.
  7. Think wraps. Shawls, capes and blanket serapes make big statements and are perfect for a warm or cool wedding.
  8. Note that boots go with anything right now, even dressy dresses. Heels are still square, and toes are still square for pump-style shoes.
