If you have you ever thought of designing your very own wedding dress, you might consider turning your prom dress into a wedding dress. You buy these expensive prom dresses to wear only one time and then they just hang in your closet. If you know how to sew or know someone that does know how to sew, this could be the perfect idea for you.

1. Add a hoop underneath to change the appearance. By placing one of those slips that have a hoop like Scarlett O'Hara wore in the movie, you can turn your prom dress into a wedding gown. They can be rented or bought in most bridal shops.
2. Sew some tulle to the underside of the dress. This is a big fashion trend this year. All you need to do is tack the tulle to the waistline of the underneath of the skirt part of the dress. Make sure that it hangs below the hemline about two to three inches. You can use your own judgment to decide how much that you want to show.
3. Make long sleeves short. If your wedding is to be in the summer months, you may not want to wear a wedding dress with long sleeves. Simply cut the sleeves approximately 3/4 inch longer than you want them and put a hem in to the level that you desire.
4. Change the color of the prom dress. Buy some clothing dye in the color that you want and change the appearance of the prom dress. Check the cleaning instructions before using your washing machine to dye the dress. If it is a dry clean only, which most of them are, take it to a professional at a bridal shop. They can use dye that is safe for the dress.
5. Make a long dress into a short one. You can turn a long prom dress into a short and sexy wedding dress by cutting to the length that you want, then hem the bottom. There is a trend where the front of the dress is shorter than the back. You can try this to make a beautiful wedding dress.
