Peridress.co.uk / Guides / How to start wearing maternity clothes?

Maternity clothes. When you're not very pregnant, you're anxious to wear them, by the end you've only got an outfit or two left that you can wear and you're ready to burn it! At what point in pregnancy did you have to wear maternity clothes? How many weeks or months gestation were you? Did you have to wear them or want to wear them? Was it a comfort thing? How far along were you? Approximately 18 weeks. When I was pregnant with my Son, BJ, I started wearing maternity clothes at about 16-18 weeks into my Pregnancy. I think next time around I might have to start earlier, as I have never got back into a size 4-5 dress size. I still nurse him so nowadays I wear a size 6-8 Dress size. BriansMama almost immediately! My stomach seemed to bulge almost immediately ... as did my chest (yay!) Guest wmg 6 weeks and I needed it!

I started getting very bug very fast both times. By the time I was 22 weeks I looked more like full term. I was of average weight to begin with, had singletons and put on no weight either time so it wasn't just me being an eating machine lol. I starting showing (like obviously, and everyone noticing) at about 8 weeks. By the time I got to 20 weeks VERY little fitted anymore. I mostly lived in larger stretchy things rather than maternity things though. And despite having to wear maternity clothes for almost my entire pregnancy, I never got sick of the clothes and still occassionally wear one of my maternity tops.

I am 22 weeks with our first child. I am overweight and spent the first several weeks very sick and as a result have lost about 25 pounds. The upside to that is that my normal clothes still fit because they had gotten too big on me at the beginning. Will need a maternity uniform for work sometime soon though.

With my first I wore maternity clothes at 7 months. With my second I started wearing them at 3 months. No I am 7 weeks with our 3rd and I'm thinking it might be next week!

15 Weeks, Pants Too Tight!

I started wearing my maternity clothes at 15 weeks. I can still wear my usual tops (at 18 weeks) but my pants were really beginning to pinch. And embarrassingly buttons started to pop-off. I find maternity pants (with the band that covers the belly) so comfortable, they fit like a glove. I think I'm going to find it difficult to make the switch back to normal pants after the birth, they're just not as snug!

very early

I started wearing maternity clothes between my 8th and 9th weeks. I felt bigger than that so wanted something more comfy. I also love the look of maternity clothes on pregnant women. I was glad to start wearing them very early.

7-8 weeks for pants!

I have always been pear-shaped - flat stomach and small waist with big hips, big butt, and fat thighs. I was very bloated right away, so my jeans wouldn't even button when I was a few weeks pregnant. I started wearing pregnancy jeans (not the ones with the panel, but ones with every stretch) in a size smaller than I usually wear at 7-8 weeks pregnant because all my other pants and skirts would not fit!

This is pregnancy #3, and I mostly need room in the waistline, so I'm in maternity pants. The maternity tops still look too big on me.

Not too soon

I'm thirteen weeks today and I'm a little on the heavier side...my pants are quickly becoming too tight to wear at work for 9-10 hours a day. I'm thinking about getting maternity pants just for a little extra give at the belly.

Maternity clothing

I started needing maternity clothes at 20 weeks. I am now 25 weeks and my pants are slightly tighter but I can still wear some of them and on the other hand all my normal blouses are way too small and my pregnant belly is sticking out.

Years ago, when I was pregnant, I was very thin to begin with... so few people even realized that I was pregnant until I entered my 6th month. I basically bought loose, stylish clothing to fit over my burgeoning belly. I also disliked the look of maternity clothes. The only items that I did buy were slacks with those stretchy panels to accommodate my expanding waistline. Otherwise, I saved money by buying large, loose clothes at thrift shops and feeling comfortable and stylish at the same time.

I made a mistake!

I really, really wanted to be pregnant and everything that went along with that. I wound up wearing maternity clothes around 9-10 weeks when I really didn't need to wear them. I said that they felt more "comfortable." By the end of my pregnancy I was so sick of my clothes! This time I waited until I had to wear them, which was closer to 20 weeks.
